If the ohmmeter reads infinity, there is a break in the conductor. The ohmmeter display should read zero ohms or close to zero. If the conductor ends are too far apart, connect two conductors together at one end and take the measurement for both conductors at the other end. Usually, continuity is checked by attaching an ohmmeter between the two ends of the conductor. The continuity and insulation resistance tests for each conductor and conductors within cables are performed with the electrical system completely disconnected from the electrical utility.
